W ( 1 ) - Gregory Crewdson

I was first encountered with this photographer by my year one study on the module based on creativity and photography. It's a great experience when watching the film " Gregory Crewdson - Brief Encounters " which recorded how was all those masterpieces being produced and what kind of experience that the photographer was translating to us throughout his photographs.

I was greatly impressed through the series " Beneath the Roses ", which was initially planned to produce into a film but ended up with this series of photographs.

So below here I will show some of his pieces :

Someone said something like " the greatest art is not about how much the artist tell you through his work but how much you imagine through his work ", I found it quite through in Gregory's photographs which is not about how much stories that he wanted to say, it's all about the details and everything you could spot in the photos. And from your point of view, you created your own stories on the photographs.

Gregory is different with his way when making a photo, as he said in the documentary film, he's kind of micromanaging but because of his effort on making every details at their perfect position, " Beneath the Roses " had greatly struck my eyes and impact a lot. It's like you gonna have different story on your own every time you look the the same photo, no matter it's once in a week or once in a month.

I'm not going to say all the details of Gregory as you can find it all by searching Google, so I just shared my thoughts based on what my sight told me. Maybe right now I might be looking these photos as something powerful and impactful which create a psychological imaginary space, but you always found something new as you get older. Maybe one of the character in the " Beneath the Roses " is telling my story and I'm just await for it to happen.
